CARLSBORG STORE PRESENTS

Japanese Folk Art & Textile Trunk Show

‍ ‍
Local collector, Nita Lynn, is returning to the Carlsborg Store this weekend with new goods from her fall trip to Japan.

She’ll be bringing vintage and new indigo textiles, clothing, and kimono as well as remnant pieces and panels of indigo dyed cotton for repurposing. Also many other Mingei items including a wide variety of furniture, wares, art and antiques.

Dr. Keenan will also be joining us with her handmade lotions and balms, a must for winter skin hydration. Many of you may remember Lynn, owner of Renaissance Massage & Cafe that overlooked the glorious views of the Port Angeles harbor. She’ll also be serving up tea and sharing her extensive wellness knowledge.

Carlsborg Store will be contributing a selection of new Japanese towels, tea ware, and home decor. Also, inspired vintage clothing, furniture and collectables. We’ll have organic Japanese green teas in stock including new ceremonial matcha varieties, sencha and genmaicha. They’ll be available for tasting and taking home.

Featured Carlsborg Artisan Maker

Wood Fired ‘Anagama’ Ceramist Elias Scalise

Elias Scalise joined the Carlsborg Artisan team over the holidays. He is a local wood fire potter who uses a traditional Japanese cave, Anagama, kiln. He sees himself as a collaborator with the clay, the fire, and the natural materials he uses.  His handmade glazes use traditional materials including different kinds of ash, feldspar, silica and more.  The glaze reacts with the fire to make glass and the most interesting textures form. Elias’s deep reverence for Japanese and Korean ceramics is evident in his creations. These artistic philosophies, wabi sabi and the Mingei movement, have inspired many bodies of his work.  He believes that objects develop a type of spirit over time, each piece evolving with use as hands sand, tea stains, rough edges become worn. Elias will be showcasing his pottery and sharing stories during the Japanese Trunk Show.

We look forward to seeing you!
